The Prostate Project
The Prostate Project is a volunteer run charity offering financial support to Frimley Park Hospital. It also provides support for men and their families who suffer from the disease. The focus is on treatment and early diagnosis but men do get caught by the disease and unfortunately in the UK, 10,000 men die from it every year.
We have helped by raising funds and awareness for their biggest project to date. The aim was to build a world class Urology Centre on site to give men a better chance to fight this cruel disease. The centre has been on the cards for a number of years now.
The team have done an amazing job and the Stokes Centre is now up and running, though there is still more needed to complete the interior furnishings.
As we have been supporting the Prostate Project for a number of years we have contributed to a number of their vital projects, and each and everyone has been a great joy to be a part of.
The work of this incredibly dedicated team has built and built until they took on a huge project that most small charities could only dream of.
John first heard about the project when he was Deputy Mayor of Surrey Heath back in 2009 whilst visiting Frimley Park Hospital. John was so taken with the story and vision of this small charity that he vowed then to pledge his support to the charity when he became Mayor. Still to this day the charity is held in great esteem by John and the whole LMF team.
Since 2010 we have contributed to a number of great projects with The Prostate Project.
• Funds have gone towards research to find better ways to test and diagnose Prostate Cancer earlier.
• Buying vital equipment to help diagnose early signs of the disease.
• Funding for an End Of Life specialist nurse to give support to men and their families.
• Last but not least we contributed funds to the amazing challenge to build a world class Urology Centre in the grounds of Royal Surrey Hospital. This team had to find in excess of two million pounds to make this a reality!
Apart from raising funds towards all of the above , we also spent time with them discussing various ways to engage with more people and finding new ways to fundraise and grab people's attention in order to achieve their amazing end results. Sharing advice and knowledge is just as important as funds.
We also used our creative ways to make two videos to highlight the work of this great team of researchers. doctors, nurses, professors and their patients.
We hope you will agree, the two videos showcase this worthy charity and the amazing professionals who care so much for their patients, that they want only the best equipment and space to help their patients through some difficult times in their lives.
